“I hope to encourage many more girls to take part”

Natalia Fischer (TBellès-Cannondale-Gaes) will face her first Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano, race of which she’ll be ambassador

Natalia Fischer, 24, was the dark horse of the last season, winning with authority the MTB Marathon (XCM) Spanish Championship in her debut. In 2018 she will face her first Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano, race of which she’ll be ambassador.

Fischer comes from triathlon, sport she had to quit due to an injury that doesn’t allow her to run, in which she has outstanding results; Olympic distance Duathlon World Champion runner-up and European Duathlon champion (both in age group 20-24), and Under 23 Cross Duathlon European champion.

Having gone through road cycling half season, she tried mountain biking in the second part of 2017; “I’ve discovered what I really like, it combines nature and cycling”, says the Andalusian with Swiss origin.

After her national title, she finished third in GAES Catalunya Bike Race presented by Shimano, her first important MTB stage race; “I felt best the third day, since I perform better when the others suffer. That point of agony and suffering is what gives me an edge”, Natalia reveals.

From Málaga, she’s thrilled about being ambassador of Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano. “Excitement and gratitude, those are my feelings. I hope to encourage many more girls to take part in this race, which number is increasing each year”.

2018 goals

At Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano 2018, the Andalusian will face her first ever six-day MTB stage race and one of the most relevant in the world. “It will be the first time I’ll do a race with so many stages. What I most fear is how my body will react to so many days”

Fischer, one of Spain’s mountain biking women young promises, is willing to compete in Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano; “what motivates me most, besides being a demanding and beautiful race, is that it takes place in my autonomous community”. Regarding her aspirations in the race; “I hope to give my best at Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano but there’s a great international level”.

Although Natalia’s other goals aim high; “my main goal of the season will be the MTB Marathon European Championship and, if possible, the MTB Marathon World Championship”. She also targets La Rioja Bike Race presented by Shimano and GAES Catalunya Bike Race presented by Shimano.

Fischer not only wants to take forward her sports career, also her university degree; “I study Marketing and Market Research. With determination, effort and planning, I can perfectly combine my training and studies. I usually workout in the mornings and study in the afternoons but there’s also time to have fun”.

Natalia Fischer’s debut in Andalucía Bike Race presented by Shimano will be on February 25th in Linares (Jaén).
