Eva Lechner: “I always wanted to do one day Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén”

Few cyclists, in any cycling category, can barely match Eva Lechner's wins. With eleven World Championship medals, 13 European and 3 times Olympic cyclist, the Italian continues with motivated as her first day. Now her motivation is called Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén.

Your season is not going to start with Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén, as you have been competing in cyclocross for months now. Which is your shape nowadays?

No, but it’s going to start the MTB season which is a different discipline again. My shape should be pretty good but for 45min. racing full gas. Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén is much longer and over 6 days, so it will be a little bit different.

The fact that you started your season months ago, can it make you have a better shape than the rest of the cyclists?

We will see. As I said, CX is different so I have to see how I will go on the longer distance at this time of the year.

What do you expect from this special edition? It's the tenth anniversary and it will be back to the singletracks of the first editions...

I´m excited to be part of it. I always wanted to do one day Andalucía Bike Race presented by Caja Rural Jaén and I´m happy to be at the tenth anniversary. That is something special and I love singletrails. So looking forward to it.

Which is your goal for these six days of competition?

I hope to have fun and enjoy the race. I would love to be on the podium but I saw there will be strong women. So I will try my best for that.

Which can be, in your opinion, the key to be in the front with the best cyclists?

In my opinion, you need to be careful with eating and drinking and looking to have always good recovery for the next day.
